Amy Zavaglia, Head Tennis Pro

“My name is Amy Zavaglia and I'm so excited to be here at Mercerwood Shore Club!

I have been playing tennis since I was 4 and love the sport like crazy. I grew up in Edmonds, WA playing tennis at Harbor Square year round as well as playing USTA tournaments all throughout the summer. During my teens, I had a USTA Champs ranking in the Pacific Northwest in the 20's for Singles and in the top 10 for doubles. I played four years of varsity tennis at Edmonds-Woodway High School and qualified for the AAA State tournament in singles once and doubles twice where I placed 6th and earned the Sportsmanship Award. After graduating, I went to Gonzaga and played on their team for one year.

Currently I am a Spanish teacher at Newport High School and the girl's varsity tennis coach. I am training more in tennis and will be playing on the 9.0 mixed doubles team at Harbor Square next year.

Here are some things to help you prepare for a successful season:

• When in doubt of a scheduled match or practice due to rain, check the website or call Lori Coe (230-4223) or Abby Stern (232-2213).
• Friday match play:
  • Make sure your child is wearing their MSC tennis team t-shirt. We are trying to build a sense of MSC team pride.
  • Bring a water bottle and a snack if you need it. Often times the snack bar is open at the pool but don't rely on it. There are no team snacks this year other than a few practice day surprises.
  • Please make sure your child is wearing sufficient sunscreen and has a visor/hat if need be.
  • Make sure you fill out the vacation schedule. It is essential that I know when a player is going to miss a match.
• End of season party/awards: This will be held on Thursday, August 9th in place of match play. Details to follow.

Lori Coe and Abby Stern will be your parent representatives this year. Please feel free to call them with any questions or concerns as well as any changes to your vacations schedule.

I am looking forward to teaching your children and helping them establish a love an respect for the great game of tennis.
